Vegetation study plays an important role in forest management and especially with the use of new technologies tools enabling large scale observations. In October 2019, the revision of Budongo Conservation Forest Reserve (BCFR) management plan was engaged by the students and some lecturers of the program "Tropical and Inter national Forestry", from the university of Göttingen in Germany- For that, a series of activities among which a forest inventory and remote sensing analysis of the vegetation was engaged. The forest of Budongo, covering a total area of 850 km², with an average altitude of 1100 m is located in the civil district of Bunyoro in Uganda. Within that area, more than half is covered by dense forest,
From the analysis of high spatial resolution (10m) sentinel 2A images of BCFR, 3 vegetation classes have been delimited: Savanna, Woodland (or colonising forest) and Dense forest. The vegetation is related to the topography on specific area. Values of elevation obtained from the forest inventory are on average 1010 m and 1050m, respectively in the woodlands (transition) and in the forest part. Those values were similar to the one obtained from the processing of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) images. However, the forest part was medium to high elevation values in general but quite heterogeneous.
